Writing about Risk Management

Updated: Apr 8, 2022

The responsibilities of senior designation at Axis & Grounded brought in new perspectives. I got the opportunity to be a part of projects from planning and decision making phase, through construction period to final handover stage. What I also observed through the entire process; were the hopes, aspirations of stakeholders and multiple agencies and their personalities influencing the projects life-cycle.

Some of the projects that I worked upon, were Holiday homes or Second homes constructed near tourist destinations. These projects were major investments for the developers as well as buyers, and hence provided a good database for application of risk management techniques.

The project sites and their climatic conditions varied; from hilly regions of Uttarakhand, to coastal setting of Goa. Project clients were from different backgrounds; promoters and investors, sometimes home owners and buyers. Other stakeholders, like the contractors, site engineers, consultants in advisory roles and local administration added to the variety of database.

In 2019, a much needed break from work, gave me time to pen down my thoughts. Project experiences extending over a decade took form of a dissertation report. The draft was approved and accepted by NICMAR; the Long paper was completed on a satisfactory note and I received PG Diploma in Construction Management from NICMAR.

Over next few posts, I am going to share excerpts from my dissertation paper on Risk management of Construction projects. Indecision, misinformation, and half baked knowledge are major risks in construction projects. Read following posts to learn how each project has it's own share of risks and how the project teams carry on in-spite of these risks.
